Tarot cards are an awesome way to gain insight into the symbolic and archetypal heroes and monsters running around in our unconscious minds.
In essence, the purpose of tarot cards are to provide us with alternate contexts and containers in which we can pour our own experiences and see how they look from the outside. They act as a sort of ink blot test for you to see your own projections, hopes and fears.
Traditional tarot decks used personalities, symbolism and occult knowledge systems familiar to their audience at the time to convey multi-layered and sometimes even paradoxical meanings and possibilities. These underlying symbols and archetypal messages are as important today as they ever were, but have taken on new outward forms.
The Pop Culture Tarot deck is an attempt to sort of update and remix the traditional tarot deck using modern imagery that we all know and love. It is an open-source project in which any and everyone is welcome to join in. For more information on contributing to this project, go here.
